The Isis cult of ancient Egypt. Very little has been handed down to us concerning this fascinating aspect of ancient Egyptian religion. Nevertheless, some aspects of the Isis cult can be found in a number of other religions, among others in the veneration of Mary of Christianity - and have thus survived. These texts are a contemporary reconstruction and a creative interpretation basing upon the limited evidence still available to us, among others, the narrative entitled "The Golden Ass" from the Roman poet Apuleius, parts of which can be understood as fact-based report on the cult of Isis in the ancient Graeco-Roman world. A text charged with deep meaning, which animates to thought, and perhaps even possesses the ability to induce a healing catharsis in the reader or listener, in the same way as the ancient rites, throughout millennia, must have done again and again in the faithful believers.
